THE ALARMING TRUTH:
Relationship abuse is far more common than many realize, and the negative effects can be long lasting. Every minute, nearly 20 people in the US are physically abused by an intimate partner. While physical abuse can be one of the most dangerous forms of relationship violence, relationship abuse encompasses more than physical violence. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men in the US experience some form of relationship abuse by an intimate partner in their lifetime; this could be physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional abuse. Experiencing domestic violence can lead to physical symptoms including cardiovascular issues, chronic pain, reproductive issues, digestive issues, and even brain injury. Beyond the physical effects, relationship abuse leads to high rates of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance use disorders. Understanding that relationship abuse is crucial when it comes to recognizing signs and symptoms, seeking support for yourself, and offering support to others. At the Jessica Yaffa Coaching Institute, we are proud to offer relationship abuse awareness workshops to support survivors and reduce experiences of domestic violence and their effects.
